Colleague Sonja Carstens and I went to Moloto bus rank to do a story on the so-called Road of Death (Moloto Rd to KwaMahlanga).  There is regular horrific accidents on this road often involving packed Putco buses.  People living in KwaMahlanga has to use this road to commute to Pretoria and a majority of these commuters make use of the Putco buses.

I am not a nervous driver but it was a hair-raising experience driving this road in the dark early morning.

People start queuing at the bus rank from the early hours.  When we got there at 5.00 the queues were already long.

Some of the people we talked to have to do this every single day to make a living and support their families.

Read Sonja’s story in Beeld.
