Two children stories I have recently done. The 1st picture is of Markus Meyer at the Carel du Toit centre. This is a amazing place where children with hearing disabilities learn to speak rather than sign. This allows them to attend mainstream schools.

The 2nd pic is of 17 month old Miche Zietsman, who is learning to swim at the Garsfontein Swim School. The Baby Water safety course is for babies as young as 6 months and uses the natural reflex babies have in the womb to not shallow amniotic fluid.

  1. Alet, I’m afraid I’m not really a fan of the Carel du Toit centre. My niece went there as a child. She’s now an adult who never learnt to speak well enough to communicate with the hearing world and whoe lack of sign excluded her from the deaf world, too. She lives in a world of isolation, lonelier than anyone I know, and with no real education behind her. It breaks my heart! But this doesn’t detract from your excellent photos!
